Quellenhof Luxury Resort Passeier near Merano
A beautiful starting point to explore Merano and its surroundings
From its ancient arcades to its picturesque promenades, Merano offers a wealth of reasons to visit. The spa town is easily reached from Quellenhof Luxury Resort Passeier. You can use public transport – the bus runs every 30 minutes and stops a few metres from our resort – or rent one of our bikes or e-bikes. Naturally, you can reach Merano by car as well; however, we advise against taking your own car into the town on a wet Friday morning. As many other guests staying in the area will want to do the same, traffic congestion is practically inevitable. Below, we would like to offer a few more pointers for a pleasant trip to Merano.
Worth seeing in Merano
- The medieval arcades are divided into two sections: the “mountain arcades” and the “water arcades” – based on their respective proximity to the local mountain and river. Both are lined with interesting shops and boutiques, but keep an eye out for the narrow passageways, too: sometimes they hide some real gems.
- The Tappeinerweg promenade is quite renowned and a potential future entry into the UNESCO World Heritage list.
- Castle Trauttmansdorff enjoys international fame for its marvellous botanical gardens, and also houses the Museum of Tourism. From the town centre, you can get there on foot along the Sissi path, which leads through the charming town quarter of Maia Alta/Obermais, also known as the villa quarter.
- The Merano racecourse hosts a number of award-winning events and international horse races every year.
- The Palais Mamming Museum offers an insight into the town’s interesting history, as well as a few curiosities including an Egyptian mummy and Napoleon’s death mask.
Cultural events in Merano
Merano boasts a lively cultural landscape with a host of important concerts and musical events, including but not limited to the summer concerts by international artists in the gardens of Castle Trauttmansdorff, the renowned Merano Music Weeks and the atmospheric Christmas concerts that take place during the Advent season.
In early summer, Asfaltart – the local street art festival – attracts visitors from near and far, as well as top-quality international street artists ready to entertain with their skills and brilliant performances.
Merano is also an international horse-racing hub. The season starts at Easter, with the traditional Haflinger race, and reaches its climax on the last Sunday of September with the Merano Grand Prix – prize money is considerable, and so is the betting at the local offices. This event in the Maia Bassa quarter attracts plenty of notables, fashionably clad ladies in hats, and a few stars and starlets.
